Selem need not be only for [near-]bankrupts. A garden-owner may selem at mid-term (while still waiting the fruits), invest in the presenting opportunities and then have compounded the otherwise would be earnings. In case of Heejaz (Mecca and Medina), this could be going to commerce voyages.
