Arabic, read, written, understood, ...

Arabic is important. I post texts in Arabic, at this site.

There is another page, where I tell about writing Arabic texts in Latin letters (ASCII), next, about pronouncing them, etc.

Q: What is Arabic?

A:

Arabic is one of the classical languages that is still in use. It has quite a few dialects, it appears. On this site, as much as I learn, I will concentrate on the Arabic as employed by the Quran (the Islamic) holy book, and in the hadiths (the recorded words and behaviors) of our prophet Muhammed (s.a.s.).

Q: Why does this page exist?

A:

This is a questions-and-answers page on Arabic. I am not such a speaker of it. Indeed, I know very little. But even at this stage, I may have things to tell about using and learning Arabic. For example, for transcribing the Quran in a Latin alphabet (ASCII, etc.), I have my own rules/mapping, that I use on this site, instead of expecting everyone to install Arabic fonts.

I will only try my best to be correct in what I tell. Do not expect to find very much information on the intricacies of Arabic, here - except, probably, the points I encounter, in Quran-discussing volumes (called, tefsir) I read.

If for nothing else, this page and the related pages may help the readers of this site to have an opinion of my level of understanding, in Arabic language. That may be a particularly good strategy because I am not getting formally educated for Arabic, and as a result, reporting my level of Arabic, is not feasible, in other ways.
